Some days....

Just had the most worthless doctor's visit I've ever been too. The Overlord has some blotchy colored skin on her left leg. We went to the dermatologist and this person spent 10 seconds looking at her before declaring "It's eczema." I asked why it didn't look like her other eczema and she replied "Eczema looks like that when it's healing from the rash." I explained that this had never been a rash and it had looked like this for two months. She repeated that it was eczema. She handed me a prescription, two samples and a coupon for a discount on the prescription and walked out. She was in the room for less than two minutes.

More interestingly, I also just had to get a piece of cheese out of the Overlord's nose. Someone explain to me why she thought it was a good idea to put cheese up her nose? She showed it to me, quite proudly, as I stood there, dumbfounded at her actions.

Summer Walks

In the summertime, I like to take walks around our neighborhood. The Overlord rides serenely in her stroller and likes to get out and look at all of the flowers.

Since the tradition here is for people to plant flowers around their mailboxes, she does more looking than we do walking on some days. And that's okay.

Found out yesterday that my girl likes fried okra. She tried a piece of mine, then proceeded to steal most of it, until I convinced her to at least ask. "More. Ok. Ra." **chuckles**

Grandparents visit!

The Kohlers came to visit and as always the Tiny Overlord really enjoyed it. She remembers her grandparents now and talks about them in between visits. She still sometimes needs some time to warm up to them, but she definitely knows who they are.

She loves getting to spend time with GG and Papa Bob. Two more people to pay attention, play with, read books to her - what's not to love? And this time, she got to swim in another Big Pool! The excitement was palpable. I honestly don't know who had more fun, Summer or Papa Bob.

We all made some peach cobbler. We measured out the ingredients, and the Overlord dumped them into a bowl and stirred. It was tasty!

The ladies all went clothes shopping at Babies R Us at a big end of summer clearance sale. The clothes we bought were all for next summer. The pants are huge on her now, of course, but she can wear the shirts already. I enjoyed the shopping, but the Overlord thought the pool was much better.

We went to Jump for Joey, where they have a bunch of bouncy houses set up inside. It's great for exercise and fun any time the weather is too hot, cold or rainy to play outside.

Small surprise that she wore herself out. She had a great time and we did too.

Last Shuttle Launch

Today we all watched the very last launch of the Space Shuttle. I can't express my anger and frustration that Summer will be growing up while our county has no manned space program AND no plans to implement one. As someone who applied to become an astronaut (I was disqualified because of my eyesight) this seems so near sighted.

You can be anything you want to be, little one. Except an astronaut.

Fourth of July

The Overlord gets tired around 7 or 7:30, which is much too early for one of the major firework displays. So we gave her a small display here at home, which she enjoyed.

Zoo!

Today the Overlord and I went to the zoo with some friends (the same ones who invited us to the Big Pool). Her local library has a DVD about the zoo, and when you check it out and back in, you get 4 free tickets to the zoo. Children under 2 are free, so all 5 of us got into the zoo for free. Quite the deal.

I was up at 6 and the Overlord at 7:30 to make it to their house by 8:30, where we all piled into her van (the Overlord's car seat was moved into the van, of course.)We sang songs as requested by Her Supreme Smallness and arrived at the zoo by 10.

First we visited the elephant. Her Excited Excellence proudly called out "ears!" and "tail!". Then we visited the warthogs. She deigned to speak their language, calling out "oink!" and "tunnel!". She wanted to climb in their tunnels, so we had a discussion that the sidewalk was for little girls only, and the tunnels were for the warthogs only. She was not pleased.

We visited the parakeets next. The zoo sold "Seed Sticks" which consisted of seeds and little pellets of bird food stuck on a small stick. I got one for each of the kids and they had fun feeding the parakeets that flew freely in an aviary. The picture shows the Overlord's hand, and the people across the way are our friends (flowered shirt and shorts, pink shirt and shorts, and green shirt with Goofy hat).

One of the parakeets even landed on her stick.

She seemed to enjoy it, telling me "Birds! Tweet!" and "Eat birds!" which is her way of saying "Feed the birds."

On our way to see the lions, Her Cuteness saw a photo opportunity. Never one to pass this up, she exclaimed "Tunnel!". She climbed up the little steps behind it and posed all by herself. This picture was all her idea.

She liked the lion, but once she realized he was taking his nap, she told us all "Shh! Lion sleep. Nap." There was a volunteer there answering questions who let the Countess of Cuteness touch a lion skull.

She posed for another picture on the way to the meerkats.

We moved on to the African Plains where we saw zebras, giraffes, a rhino and ostriches, all together.

There was a walkway constructed so that it was flat to us but in the tops of the trees for the habitats it passed through. We saw birds, lemurs and monkeys here. There was a huge nest, and of course her Adorableness climbed in and had some fun being a bird.

From there, we moved on to Asia, with hornbills, sun bears and tigers. The Overlord was quite disappointed that the tiger was hiding, but after a while he came out and she yelled out "Kitty!"

We also saw pandas, which the Overlord promptly named "Bear."

There was a naked mole rat exhibit, which the little ones could enter and exit by crawling through a tunnel. Outside of the exhibit was a playground of tunnels. She had fun pretending to be a mole rat.

All in all, we spent over 4 hours at the zoo. The Overlord took an hour nap in the van on the way back, and talked with me on the way back to our house. I was planning for her to continue her nap, but her daddy was home early because of the holiday weekend, so she was too excited about this to nap. She ended up going to bed at 5:30. She woke up about 8:30 crying, so that both of us went to comfort her. She cried and rolled around for a while, and then passed quite a lot of gas. She felt better but still couldn't settle down, so I ended up sleeping next to her crib for the rest of the night. With me in her room, she fell asleep until the morning. What an adventure!
